Working People United (WoPU), a coalition of patriots drawn from organised labour unions, professionals, artisans, traders, and stakeholders across key sectors of the Nigerian economy, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from the Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The coalition described the rescue, which brought the victims home safely after 56 days in captivity, as a landmark achievement that underscores the power of decisive leadership, intelligence-driven operations, and national resilience.
WoPU praised the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security and intelligence agencies for their courage, professionalism, and coordinated efforts in ensuring the safe release of the victims without collateral damage. The group noted that the arrest of eight abductors and the neutralisation of others sends a strong message that criminal elements threatening Nigeria’s peace and security will be confronted and defeated.
In a press release issued from the secretariat of Working People United (WoPU) and circulated to journalists on Saturday, the coalition affirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again exemplified the qualities of a leader deeply committed to safeguarding the lives and security of Nigerians.
The statement further highlighted that the President’s directive for the immediate provision of medical care, psychological support, and humanitarian assistance to the rescued children and teachers stands as a clear demonstration of compassion, responsibility, and statesmanship.
“This successful rescue is more than a security victory; it is a triumph of leadership, intelligence, resilience, and national resolve. It shows that when government provides decisive leadership and security agencies work in synergy, criminal elements can be defeated,” WoPU stated.
The coalition also commended the Government of Oyo State for working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies throughout the operation. WoPU stressed that the outcome reinforces the importance of cooperation between federal and state authorities in safeguarding lives and protecting educational institutions.
WoPU also urged all state governments to strengthen security around schools and vulnerable public facilities to prevent future abductions. It welcomed the President’s directive that emergency agencies collaborate with the Oyo State Government to provide comprehensive medical care, trauma counselling, and humanitarian assistance to the rescued victims, insisting that their physical and emotional recovery must remain a national priority.
While celebrating the milestone, WoPU reiterated its confidence that the Federal Government will ensure that every individual connected to the crime is prosecuted and made to face the full weight of the law.
The coalition emphasised that the successful operation has renewed public confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions and reinforced the belief that insecurity can be decisively confronted with strategic leadership, effective intelligence, and sustained collaboration.
WoPU reaffirmed its unwavering support for efforts aimed at strengthening national security, protecting lives and property, promoting justice, and advancing good governance. It called on Nigerians to support security agencies by remaining vigilant and providing timely information to aid the fight against criminality.“
Together, we shall continue to build a safer, stronger, and more united Nigeria,” the coalition declared.
