The Lagos State chapter of the City Boy Movement has officially been inaugurated, with the group pledging to mobilise at least eight million votes across the South-West in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s anticipated 2027 re-election bid.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday at Marcellina’s Place in Ikeja, brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, youth representatives, local government chairmen, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
South-West Commitment
Speaking at the event, Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, South-West Coordinator of the movement, reaffirmed the region’s commitment to deliver a minimum of eight million votes for Tinubu. He urged members of the Lagos chapter to act as ambassadors of the pledge and ensure the movement’s presence is felt across communities.
“We in the South-West promised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nothing less than eight million votes, and you are the ambassadors of those votes,” Alao-Akala declared.
Youth Empowerment and Grassroots Mobilisation
Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe, Director-General of the Lagos chapter and Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, emphasised that the movement’s mission extends beyond electoral mobilisation. He described the initiative as a platform for youth empowerment and national development.
“Today is far more than the inauguration of another state chapter. It is about mobilising and empowering Nigerian youths to be more responsible and committed to the development of the country,” Ogunlewe said, noting that young Nigerians form a majority of the population but remain underrepresented in civic participation.
He revealed that the movement plans to establish grassroots structures across wards, communities, and polling units, while promoting unity, discipline, and youth involvement in governance.
Bridging Government and Grassroots
National Director-General of the movement, Tosin Shoga, explained that the organisation was created to strengthen the link between government policies and citizens at the grassroots.
“The City Boy Movement has become a vehicle that carries the Renewed Hope Agenda to every corner of the country. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the grassroots and the government,” Shoga said.
APC Leaders Pledge Support
Hon. Sesan Olowa, Chairman of Conference 57 and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, pledged the commitment of Lagos council chairmen to the initiative, assuring that “no stone will be left unturned” in ensuring Tinubu’s victory in Lagos State.
Amir Kashim Shettima (Jnr.), son of the Vice President and co-patron of the movement, alongside Moremi Ojudu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, encouraged members to promote government programmes including infrastructure projects, education initiatives, healthcare interventions, and the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Representing Lagos APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, State Vice Chairman Hon. Moshood Maiyegun said the movement could significantly boost youth participation in politics and strengthen cooperation between the party and youth groups.
Cultural Showcase and Dignitaries
The inauguration featured a documentary highlighting the movement’s objectives and a performance by Nigerian singer 9ice. Dignitaries present included the founder, Barrister Oluwaseyi Tinubu (represented by National Secretary Tosin Odufuwa), as well as other APC leaders and stakeholders.
