The Ogun State Government has expressed deep appreciation to all emergency responders who participated in the search and recovery operation following the tragic building collapse at Baale Road, OGS Bus Stop, Ajuwon.
In a statement signed by Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, the government acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) while clarifying the sequence of events to ensure accurate public understanding.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on Monday and Governor Dapo Abiodun immediately activated the state’s emergency response. Officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the Ogun State Emergency Management Agency, security agencies, and other stakeholders were swiftly deployed to the site to coordinate rescue efforts, secure the area, and protect nearby properties.
The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, supported by Craneburg Construction, mobilised heavy-duty equipment including payloaders, excavators, and dumper trucks within minutes of the collapse. This rapid deployment enabled search and recovery operations to begin almost immediately.
Recognising the proximity of the incident to the Lagos border, Ogun officials reached out to their counterparts in Lagos on Monday to request additional support. The LASEMA team arrived on Tuesday, July 28, by which time Ogun State responders, assisted by NEMA, security agencies, and Craneburg, had already been engaged in continuous operations for more than 18 hours, with significant excavation and recovery completed.
The government also commended the Executive Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Hon. Kusimo Idris Olalekan, and his team for working tirelessly through the night to maintain order and support emergency responders.
Governor Abiodun extended gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and LASEMA for their cooperation, describing the collaboration as a reflection of the unity and shared responsibility that should define relations between neighbouring states during emergencies.
The statement further noted that a comprehensive technical investigation has commenced to determine the causes of the collapse, with assurances that regulatory and legal actions will follow if violations of building standards or planning laws are uncovered. The government reiterated its commitment to enforcing compliance with physical planning regulations and urged developers and property owners to seek proper approvals, engage qualified professionals, and conduct regular structural integrity assessments.
Finally, the Ogun State Government conveyed heartfelt condolences to families who lost loved ones, wished the injured a speedy recovery, and thanked residents of the affected community for their patience and cooperation throughout the operation.
