Services Slightly Disrupted As Fire Guts Lagos Blue Line Rail Track

A fire broke out on a section of the Lagos Blue Line rail track on Saturday, opposite the NEPA Station near Eko Bridge inward Apogbon area of Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred at 4:12pm, was quickly brought under control with no reported casualties.

Spokesperson for the Lagos State governor, Gboyega Akosile, confirmed the development in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), describing the incident as minor.

“There was a fire outbreak on a small section of the Lagos Blue Line track at a spot opposite NEPA Station by Eko Bridge inward Apogbon,” Akosile wrote. “The incident occurred at 4:12 p.m. No casualty was reported, and no train service was in operation at the time of the incident.”

He further noted that a team of safety and emergency personnel responded promptly, extinguishing the fire.

“A team of safety and emergency personnel and other first responders had completely put out the fire,” Akosile added. “Lagosians in that axis can go about their business peacefully as the situation is under control.”

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) is expected to provide further updates on the resumption of Blue Line train operations.

For now, the authorities have assured residents and commuters that the area was safe, and regular activities can continue without disruption.
