Fidelity Bank Plc has reinforced its commitment to community development, cultural preservation, and social welfare with the distribution of 2,000 food packs to selected beneficiaries in Onitsha, Anambra State, as part of activities marking the 2026 Ofala Festival of the Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe.
The annual Ofala Festival, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated cultural events, marks the Obi’s reign and showcases the rich heritage of the Onitsha Kingdom through traditional displays, cultural performances, and royal ceremonies.
The food distribution exercise was conducted under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank Initiative and formed part of its sponsorship of the festival. The programme underscores the bank’s ongoing efforts to combat hunger, support vulnerable households, and contribute to sustainable development in its host communities.
Speaking during the outreach, the Regional Bank Head, Onitsha, Ozioma Anyanonu, said the initiative provided an opportunity for the bank to celebrate Onitsha’s cultural heritage while positively impacting the lives of community members.
“As a bank, we recognize that the prosperity of any community is closely linked to the wellbeing of its people. Through the Fidelity Food Bank, we are helping families meet basic needs, easing the burden of feeding, and strengthening the resilience of communities,” he said.
Anyanonu revealed that since the launch of the Fidelity Food Bank in April 2023, the initiative has distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, supporting the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger).
He noted that the distribution of 2,000 food packs during the Ofala Festival reflects the bank’s commitment to sharing in the celebrations while making a meaningful contribution to the welfare of the Onitsha people.
Commenting on the festival’s theme, “Igba Mbo, Iga N’Iru” (Strive and Advance: From Resilience to Progress), Anyanonu said it aligns with Fidelity Bank’s mission of empowering communities and creating pathways for sustainable growth.
“The theme highlights the importance of resilience, collective effort, and progress. We are proud to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Onitsha while supporting the people whose values and traditions continue to sustain this remarkable community,” he stated.
He also expressed appreciation to the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, the Onitsha community, and the bank’s partners for their support and dedication to preserving the kingdom’s cultural heritage.
Launched in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank remains one of the bank’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives focused on addressing hunger, reducing malnutrition, and supporting communities affected by food insecurity nationwide.
