United States President, Donald Trump has reaffirmed his administration’s support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), praising the agency’s officers for what he described as their efforts in reducing crime and enforcing the nation’s immigration laws.

Trump in a statement on Wednesday commended ICE personnel, saying they were doing “a great job” in carrying out what he called an essential responsibility to protect the United States.

The President claimed that crime in the country had declined significantly, asserting that crime rates were at levels not seen in decades, although he did not provide data to support the claim.

Trump also criticised former President Joe Biden’s immigration policies, alleging that they allowed about 25 million people to enter the United States without adequate screening or vetting.

He said that many of those who entered were criminals and insisted that his administration remained committed to removing individuals who were in the country illegally.

The U.S. President specifically defended the use of traffic stops by ICE officers, describing them as one of the agency’s most important and effective crime-fighting tools. He warned that abandoning the tactic would benefit criminals and undermine law enforcement efforts.

Trump further accused Democrats of seeking to weaken immigration enforcement but vowed that such efforts would not succeed under his administration.

He urged ICE officers to remain “judicious, fair and smart” while continuing their work, encouraging them to maintain what he described as positive crime statistics.
