The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, has urged media practitioners to remain ambassadors of truth and uphold ethical standards in support of national security and development.

Anele made the call at the closing of the combined first and second quarters Directorate of Army Public Relations Media Workshop 2026 on Wednesday in Abuja.

She said the media remained a critical stakeholder in shaping national security outcomes through accurate, professional and responsible reportage.

According to her, the workshop, with the theme, “Media Integration as a Force Multiplier for Joint and Multi-Agency Operational Success”, highlighted the strategic role of media operations in modern security environments.

Anele said effective media integration enhanced operational coordination, strengthened inter-agency collaboration and amplified mission successes.

She noted that discussions during the workshop also focused on the growing relevance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in media operations and strategic communication.

According to her, AI-driven tools can improve information management, audience analysis and rapid-response communication in an increasingly digital information environment.

“In an era where speed, accuracy and influence define outcomes, artificial intelligence is no longer a luxury but a strategic necessity,” she said.

Anele said participants also examined the role of media operations in shaping narratives, countering misinformation and strengthening public confidence in security operations.

She stressed that information had become a decisive operational component in contemporary security engagements.

The army spokesperson said success in modern military operations required synergy among the armed services, security agencies and the media.

“You are not mere observers; you are critical stakeholders in shaping national security outcomes.

“I urge all participants to carry forward the lessons from this workshop, ensuring professionalism, accuracy and responsibility in all engagements,” she said.

Anele said such commitment would help deny adversaries the advantage of misinformation while amplifying the truth about collective efforts to secure the nation.

She commended the resource persons, media partners, participants and stakeholders whose contributions ensured the success of the workshop.

According to her, their dedication reflects a shared commitment to building a safer, stronger and more united Nigeria.

Anele formally declared the combined first and second quarters Directorate of Army Public Relations Media Workshop 2026 closed.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the workshop featured paper presentations and discussions by media scholars, professionals and senior military officers as well as contributions from defence correspondents.
