The Group Managing Director of Sahara Group and board Chairman of Ikeja Electric, Dr Kola Adesina has expressed delight for receiving a special award as Honorary Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
The honorary conferment ceremony was held on Tuesday in Abuja during the 2022 National Engineering Conference, Exhibition, and Annual General Meeting of the NSE, with the theme, ‘Advancing the frontiers of Communication and Digital Economy in Nigeria’.
Adesina said he places high premium on his award as honorary fellow of the NSE, while also thanking the society for the recognition, said it is an award given to the over 5,000 staff of Sahara Group, Egbin Power Plc, First Independent Power, Ikeja Electric and Sahara Global, whom he represents.
Reacting officially on Wednesday on his social media platforms to the fresh milestone recorded, the amiable Dr Adesina said despite not being an engineer by training, he had stood on the shoulders of great engineers who have nurtured his technical and building skills over the years.
He also used the platform to express gratitude to late Engr Seke Somolu, the late Engr Joe Majoku, Engr Yusuf Abdulmumuni, Engr Godwin Osakue, Engr John Ayodele, Engr Sanusi Garba, and Prof. Frank Okafor.
Others that received his appreciation are, Dr. George Oluwande, Alistair Morrison, Engr. Mike Uzoigwe, Engr. Rotimi Onanuga, the late Engr. Biodun Ajifowobaje, the engineers in Egbin Plc, FIPL and Ikeja Electric, the control room operators, the lines men, the distribution Sub-station Officers and all other engineers in NERC, NEMSA, TCN, Sahara Group and the Power Sector at large.
He said:
“Yesterday (November 15, 2022) I had the privilege of receiving a special award as Honorary Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). I humbly submit that there are 8 billion engineers on the planet, as we all at different points of our lives have to build or design the future we desire. But I must salute the real engineers who continue to make positive impact globally through their works – everyday.”
Continuing,
“I’m not an engineer by training, I have stood on the shoulders of great engineers who have nurtured my technical and building skills over the years.

He added, “I will continue to add value and create impact, riding on the wings of all past and present engineers. I also commit to creating platforms for future engineers to excel and birth the change we desire to see in our country.
“I would like to thank the NSE for this recognition. I am also grateful for all the well wishers from near and far.
