Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), have thwarted an attempted mass abduction by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on July 19. The school, currently serving as temporary hostel accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno, was targeted by the attackers who reportedly gained access with the help of suspected collaborators.
Security personnel on duty engaged the assailants immediately, while the Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force reinforced the facility. The terrorists were forced to abandon their mission and flee, leaving all 46 students unharmed.
Although parts of the school’s infrastructure sustained damage during the exchange of gunfire, the students were successfully evacuated to Kinnasara Barracks in Monguno, where they received medical evaluation and care. Captain Goni confirmed that all rescued students are medically stable, though some were fatally struck during the firefight.
Operation HADIN KAI extended condolences to the families of the deceased and emphasized that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend suspected collaborators. Troops, working with other security agencies, are pursuing the fleeing terrorists as investigations continue.
The military reiterated its commitment to intensifying counter-terrorism operations in the North-East and safeguarding schools and other critical public infrastructure across the region.
