The Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Lagos Zone, convened its quarterly Zonal Executive Council meeting today at the Mauve 21 Event Center, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The meeting brought together zonal executive members from across the Lagos Zone to assess progress, reinforce solidarity, and outline strategies for the continued growth of the Branch and the Union at large.
In his welcome remarks, Comrade Alhaji Gbolahan Saheed Adigun, Chairman of PTD Lagos Zone and National Security Coordinator of NUPENG, expressed deep appreciation to the Union’s National Leadership under Comrade Otunba Salimon Akanni Oladiti, National Executive President, for his steadfast support and strategic guidance.
Comrade Adigun commended his fellow zonal executives and all Petroleum Tanker Drivers in the Zone, acknowledging their resilience and collective commitment. He noted that the achievements recorded during his three-year tenure in an acting capacity were made possible through their unity and dedication. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the welfare and progress of members, while highlighting key milestones achieved under his leadership.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Comrade Adigun by the Lions Club Ibadan Zone. The award recognized his exemplary leadership, outstanding service, and unwavering dedication to the growth of the petroleum transport sector and the well-being of his members.
Representing the National Executive President, Comrade Akin Oladejo, Deputy President of NUPENG, delivered a goodwill message on behalf of Comrade Otunba Salimon Akanni Oladiti. He emphasized the importance of unity as the foundation of the Union’s strength and urged members to uphold discipline and hard work—values that have long defined the profession.
The meeting recorded strong representation from Union leaders and National Executive Council (NEC) members, including Comrade Otite Onohwohwo – Acting General Secretary, NUPENG, Comrade Samuel Olayemi Abayomi – Chairman, NUPENG Lagos Zonal Council, Comrade Modupe Otegbayo – Vice President, Lagos Zone, Comrade Solomon Kilanko – Ex-Officio, NUPENG, Comrade Adejoke Oyeleke – Ex-Officio, NUPENG, Comrade Omotayo Olayemi – Secretary, Women Committee, NUPENG, Comrade Vincent Ukhuakhua – SAGS (Finance & Admin), Comrade Osunbor Idahoise – SAGS (Admin Head, Lagos Zonal Council), Comrade Oluchi Amaogu – AGS (Admin), Lagos Zone, Comrade Suleiman M. Pema – AGS (Research & Public Affairs), NUPENG

The meeting also attracted key stakeholders and security agencies, who reaffirmed their support for collaboration in the downstream sector. These included: Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), represented by Mr. Fashola Adeshina, Vice President, alongside the IPMAN Zonal Chairman, Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
In a show of cross-sectoral camaraderie, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Ali (popularly known as BSA), the APC Governorship Candidate for Oyo State, made a surprise appearance at the event with his associates, expressing solidarity with the PTD Lagos Zonal Chairman.
