Ikeja Electric Plc (IE), one of Nigeria’s leading electricity distribution companies, has celebrated its 13th anniversary, marking over a decade of power distribution, infrastructure development, and service delivery across Lagos State.

The company, which assumed operations following the privatization of Nigeria’s power sector in November 2013, has grown significantly since rebranding from Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) to Ikeja Electric in 2015.

Over the years, Ikeja Electric has earned recognition as a key player in the nation’s energy sector, introducing several innovations aimed at enhancing customer experience and improving electricity delivery. Among its notable achievements are the early adoption of cashless payment systems, transition to automated e-billing, and the deployment of hundreds of thousands of smart and prepaid meters across its network.

The company also pioneered the “willing buyer, willing seller” bilateral power arrangement, a model that has enabled communities such as Magodo and surrounding estates to enjoy extended hours of electricity supply.

In line with its commitment to strengthening power infrastructure, Ikeja Electric has continued to expand its distribution capacity through strategic grid upgrades and the commissioning of substations, including the Kwaru Injection Substation in Ikotun, Lagos.

Reflecting on the milestone, the company expressed gratitude to its customers, employees, partners, and stakeholders for their support over the years.

In a message shared on its social media platforms and sighted by Veracity Desk, Ikeja Electric stated:

“13 years of growth, resilience and powering progress. To every customer, employee, partner and stakeholder who has been part of our journey, thank you for helping shape our story.”
The company added that it remains focused on its vision of delivering sustainable energy solutions and improving service delivery across its franchise area.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we look ahead with renewed purpose and a continued commitment to Bringing Energy to Life, Responsibly. Happy 13th Anniversary, Ikeja Electric!” the statement read.

The anniversary marks another chapter in Ikeja Electric’s journey as it continues to invest in infrastructure, technology, and innovative power solutions aimed at meeting the evolving energy needs of millions of customers across Lagos
