President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced 26 new appointments across 10 federal agencies and commissions, a sweeping move aimed at strengthening governance and service delivery. Among the notable names, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose stands out as the newly appointed Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) — a decision widely regarded as both strategic and impactful.
The REA plays a pivotal role in expanding electricity access to underserved communities, a cornerstone for economic growth and social development. Fayose’s appointment is seen as a veritable choice, given his track record of grassroots engagement and pragmatic leadership. Fayose will lead a board that includes Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors, alongside the incumbent Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors. This diverse team is expected to work collaboratively under Fayose’s chairmanship to accelerate rural electrification projects nationwide.
In addition to Fayose’s appointment, President Tinubu named Major General Junaid Bindawa (Rtd.) as Chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission, alongside eight other members, including former Lagos lawmaker Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas as Secretary. Other appointments span critical agencies such as the National Population Commission, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, and the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
By placing Fayose at the helm of REA, President Tinubu has demonstrated foresight in selecting a leader with both political acumen and grassroots credibility.
