Prominent lawyer and human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, Esq., has confirmed his inclusion in the independent committee set up by the government to investigate the deaths of alleged gold miners in Minna, Niger State.
Adeyanju, in a public statement, said he accepted the appointment with the sole purpose of safeguarding the interests of the victims and ensuring that the truth is fully established.
“I am joining the committee solely to protect the interests of the victims and ensure that the truth is established,” Adeyanju declared.
The activist urged the government not to make any monetary provision, stipend, or honorarium for members of the committee, stressing that the assignment is a national duty that requires sacrifice. He pledged to personally cover his hotel, transportation, and other expenses.
“I will not accept any such payment, and I will not participate in or tolerate any attempt to compromise the investigation or cover up wrongdoing,” he stated.
Adeyanju also vowed to expose any attempt to shield those responsible or suppress the truth, emphasizing that the victims deserve justice and that “the Nigerian factor” must not be allowed to derail the investigation.
“If there is any attempt to shield those responsible or suppress the truth, I will expose it. The victims deserve justice, and the Nigerian factor as we know it must not be allowed to prevail,” he warned.
This development underscores Adeyanju’s reputation as a fearless advocate for accountability and transparency, setting the tone for what many expect to be a rigorous and uncompromising investigation into the tragic deaths of the Minna miners.
