Black Thursday As Fire Razes Building on Lagos Island

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully contained a fire outbreak on the third floor of the Polaris Bank Building located on Broad Street, Lagos Island.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 11:33 a.m. on Thursday, involved a stationary saloon car parked on the third floor of the 17-storey structure, which also serves as a parking facility.

According to a statement by the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu stations were promptly deployed to the scene following the emergency alert.

Adeseye confirmed that the blaze was extinguished without casualties, noting that damage was limited to the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings.

Videos circulating on social media showed thick smoke billowing from the building as residents and business operators gathered nearby. Emergency responders were seen working swiftly to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent structures.

Authorities have yet to disclose the cause of the outbreak at the time of this report.
