Comedian and filmmaker, Ayo Makun, has criticised the culture of instant judgment on social media, saying online platforms often favour the first version of a story before all sides have been heard.
Makun, in a post on X, described social media as a “court of injustice” where the initial narrative often shapes public opinion before the facts are fully established.
He noted that people were often quick to condemn others based on one-sided accounts without waiting for responses from those involved.
Makun urged social media users to exercise caution before forming conclusions or passing judgment, stressing the importance of hearing all sides of a dispute.
Makun wrote, “The social media court of injustice has always favoured the first-served narrative, often rushing to immediate judgment before the other side is even heard”.

Makun, however, expressed optimism that the trend is gradually changing.
According to him, recent online conversations suggest that more people are beginning to embrace the idea that every story has two sides.
“I look forward to the day when social media fully embraces one simple truth: there are always two sides to every story. Interestingly, with some of the recent trends online, it feels like we’re gradually getting there”, he added.
