Dr. Kola Adesina, MFR, one of Nigeria’s most distinguished corporate leaders, today celebrates his 62nd birthday with heartfelt reflections on his journey, values, and vision for the future.
Adesina, who currently serves as Board Chairman of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company, Group Managing Director of Sahara Energy Group, and Chairman of AXA Mansard Insurance Plc, has long been recognized for his strategic foresight and transformative leadership across multiple sectors.
In a personal message released to mark the occasion, Dr. Adesina emphasized that a meaningful life is not measured by years lived, but by the impact made on people, institutions, and communities.
“As I celebrate my birthday today, I am deeply grateful to God for the gift of life, the blessing of family and friends, the privilege of good health, and the grace to keep finding purpose in every season of the journey,” he said.
Dr. Adesina’s professional journey has spanned insurance, finance, energy, trade, and diplomacy. He noted that each chapter of his career offered unique lessons, but it was in the energy sector that he discovered the power of translating vision into infrastructure, institutions, opportunities, and lives transformed.
Over the years, he has played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s power sector, building businesses, serving on boards, collaborating with governments, and contributing to conversations about Africa’s energy future.
Reflecting on his experiences, Dr. Adesina underscored the importance of collective effort in building lasting institutions.
“You cannot build anything that lasts by yourself. The people you develop, the leaders you raise, the institutions you strengthen, and the opportunities you create for others are often a greater measure of your success than the positions you occupy,” he remarked.
He acknowledged both successes and challenges, noting that difficult seasons built resilience, sharpened judgment, and reinforced the belief that leadership is not about having all the answers, but about courage, humility, and conviction.
Dr. Adesina reaffirmed his passion for Africa, energy, enterprise, and people, stressing that there is still much to be done. His greatest birthday wish, he said, is not merely for longevity, but for a more consequential journey ahead.
