Chief Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant for the 2027 elections in Oyo State, has honored the memory of late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, describing him as a father, mentor, and statesman whose legacy continues to resonate six years after his demise.
In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, Adelabu reflected on the enduring impact of Ajimobi’s leadership, noting that his contributions to governance and development in Oyo State remain visible and influential long after he left office in 2019.
“He was more than a political leader to me. Ajimobi was a father, a mentor, and a statesman whose guidance shaped my political and public service journey,” Adelabu said.
Adelabu praised Ajimobi’s vision, discipline, and commitment to transforming Oyo State, emphasizing that the late governor’s eight-year administration from 2011 to 2019 laid the foundation for modern governance in the state. He highlighted Ajimobi’s urban renewal initiatives, infrastructure development, and efforts to restore the dignity of traditional institutions in Ibadan and beyond.
He further recalled Ajimobi’s bold reforms in security, education, and healthcare, describing them as “uncommon transformations” that continue to serve as a benchmark for developmental politics in the Pacesetter State.
Adelabu also underscored Ajimobi’s role in nurturing a new generation of APC leaders in the Southwest, noting that his mentorship and counsel influenced many, including himself during his tenure as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and later as Minister of Power.
“His impact on Oyo State and its people is indelible. The roads, schools, hospitals, and institutional reforms he championed are still benefiting our people today,” Adelabu remarked.
Concluding his tribute, Adelabu prayed for the eternal repose of Ajimobi’s soul and encouraged his family to remain steadfast, assuring them that the former governor’s name will forever be etched in gold in the annals of Oyo State’s history.
