National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force over an alleged forgery and cloning of his signature.

Anyanwu in three separate letters dated October 15, 2025, alleged that his signature had been forged in a notice of PDP national convention transmitted to INEC.

He said the letter, referenced PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol.1M/25-140 and dated August 25, 2025, was transmitted to INEC without his knowledge or authorisation, describing the document as fake.

Anyanwu’s claims came amidst growing tensions within the PDP ahead of its planned national convention. He argued that the petitions were necessary to protect the integrity of the party and prevent the use of falsified documents in official dealings with electoral or security agencies.

Recall that the Supreme Court had nullified the judgement which sacked Anyanwu as national secretary of the PDP. He is said to be an ally of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

There are reports that Anyanwu is at logger-heads with the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) loyal to the PDP Governors Forum.

“Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorised or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged or cloned version of my signature on the letter,” Anyanwu wrote.

He urged the INEC Chairman, the Director-General of DSS and the Inspector-General of Police to launch an investigation into the matter, fish out perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“I therefore request that this criminal conduct by officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their collaborators within INEC be investigated and the culprits prosecuted,” he added.

Anyanwu’s claim won’t stop conventio — Deputy legal adviser

But reacting to the claim, the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha, assured that the convention would go on as scheduled.

Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, Osuoha confirmed that the matter was already before the court but expressed optimism that the legal dispute would not derail the exercise.

“You know that the matter is already in court. And in law, whenever a matter is before the court, you don’t comment on it because it amounts to what’s called subjudice.

“I believe the next adjourned date is sometime next week. Let’s see how things go. The case is still pending in court, but everybody is hopeful. By the grace of God, we’ll survive it and still go ahead with the convention,” he said.
