Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, has visited a 10-year-old boy currently receiving treatment after allegedly suffering abuse and maltreatment at the hands of his guardian.
Accompanied by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, Mrs. Soludo visited the child at the hospital, following her earlier directive to the Ministry of Health to ensure he received comprehensive medical care and adequate support.
Speaking after the visit, the governor’s wife explained that her purpose was to assess the boy’s condition and encourage him as he continues his recovery journey. She expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, noting that medical reports confirmed his condition had stabilized and that he was responding positively to treatment.
“I thank the medical team, concerned citizens, and everyone who has shown love, compassion and concern during this difficult time,” she said.
Mrs Soludo noted that although the boy still requires ongoing medical care, emotional support, proper nutrition and close monitoring, his improvement within a short period is encouraging.
She described the incident as a stark reminder of the collective responsibility to protect children from abuse, neglect and exploitation, and urged residents to promptly report cases of abuse and other emergencies.
“Remember, if you see something, always endeavour to say something. Prompt reporting can help save lives and protect vulnerable children,” she said.
The state’s first lady assured that her office would continue to monitor the boy’s recovery and provide the necessary support for his rehabilitation. She also encouraged residents to report cases of abuse and emergencies through the state’s emergency lines, 112 and 5111.
