The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to excellence and integrity in the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), following a wave of public commentary and social media speculation questioning the credibility of the recently released 2026 results.
In a statement obtained by Veracity Desk (veracitydesk.com) and issued by Moyosola F. Adesina, Head of Public Affairs, WAEC acknowledged the anxiety that often accompanies examination outcomes but warned against unverified claims circulating online.
“This year’s results were produced through the same rigorous, transparent, and quality-assured processes that have guided the Council’s operations for decades,” the council’s image maker wrote.
WAEC emphasized that every candidate’s script undergoes a multi-tiered system of marking, moderation, and auditing. These processes are guided by standardized marking schemes and overseen by vetted subject experts to ensure fairness and objectivity.
The Council also highlighted its transparent review channels, noting that candidates and stakeholders can lodge queries or grievances through WAEC offices nationwide or via its verified online platforms, including www.waecnigeria.org and official social media accounts @waecnigeria.
WAEC reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the interests of candidates and preserving the integrity of its assessment processes.
“Members of the public are advised to refrain from unverified social media speculation and instead contact the Council directly through its offices or verified communication channels,” Adesina stated.
The clarification comes after several content creators and commentators questioned the accuracy of the 2026 WASSCE results, sparking debate among parents, students, and educators. WAEC’s response aims to reassure stakeholders of the credibility of its examinations and to discourage misinformation
