Joint Operation Targets Terrorist Network Allegedly Planning Attacks Across Southern Nigeria

Security forces have eliminated a senior commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), identified as Abdussamad Ohida, also known as Anwar, during an intelligence-led operation in Owo Forest, Ondo State.

According to a statement issued by the joint task force, the operation was conducted by troops of the Nigerian Army, personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) and operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun.

The statement said Ohida, who was allegedly involved in planning terrorist attacks across parts of Southern Nigeria, was killed alongside several other members of the terrorist group during the coordinated operation.

The security forces reportedly relied on intelligence gathered on the activities and movements of the suspected terrorists before launching the operation in the forest.

The latest development represents another major strike against terrorist networks operating or attempting to establish footholds in Southern Nigeria, as security agencies intensify intelligence-driven operations aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and eliminating their leadership structures.

Authorities are expected to sustain surveillance and coordinated security operations in forest corridors and other identified locations considered vulnerable to terrorist infiltration.
