The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is set to unveil a new Off-
Grid Sector Coordination Forum aimed at strengthening coordination among the growing number of stakeholders driving Nigeria’s renewable energy and off-grid electricity market.
The forum, scheduled for September 28, 2026, in Abuja, is expected to bring together government institutions, state governments, development partners, financiers, mini-grid and solar companies, manufacturers, service providers and other organisations supporting the sector.
According to the REA, the initiative is coming against the backdrop of significant changes in Nigeria’s off-grid renewable energy ecosystem, which has expanded to accommodate a wider range of public and private-sector players.
The agency said the sector’s evolution has made stronger coordination and improved access to market intelligence increasingly important to ensure that investments and interventions translate into sustainable electricity access.
A major focus of the forum will be the unveiling of a revised Off- Grid Stakeholder Coordination and Partnership Framework, designed to provide a more structured platform for engagement and collaboration among stakeholders.
The framework is expected to address key issues affecting the growth and sustainability of the sector, including innovative financing, local content development, productive use of electricity and the development of commercially sustainable business models.
The forum will also identify priority issues, partnerships and actions to be pursued within the first 90 days following its launch.
The REA’s move comes as Nigeria increasingly relies on decentralised renewable energy solutions, particularly solar and mini-grid systems, to expand electricity access to communities and businesses underserved by the conventional grid.
The agency said the changing structure of the off-grid market requires stakeholders to move beyond fragmented interventions towards stronger collaboration and coordinated action.
The new coordination platform is therefore expected to provide a mechanism for stakeholders to share market intelligence, identify common challenges and develop partnerships capable of supporting the next phase of growth in the renewable energy sector.
The REA and its partners have invited active stakeholders in the off-grid and renewable energy space to participate in the unveiling.
The forum is scheduled to hold in Abuja on September 28, 2026.
