The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) Trade Union Side, has declared a three-day warning strike by public servants across the federal, state and local governments, beginning from midnight on Friday, October 2.
The unions affiliated to the council include the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), National Union of Public Service Reporters and Workers (NUPSR) among others.
The council, in a circular dated October 1, 2026 and signed by its National Secretary, Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga, directed workers to commence the warning strike immediately, citing the Federal Government’s failure to address its demands.
The circular recalled the position of the JNPSNC leadership that if President Bola Tinubu, who is also Chairman of the Federal Executive Council refused to address the council’s requests contained in its letter dated September 21, 2026, “the three day warning strike earlier scheduled shall commence immediately.”
Consequently, the council said the strike would run from midnight on Friday, October 2, to Sunday, October 4, 2026.
It also called on all public servants in the federal, state and local governments to join the action, describing the prevailing economic conditions as an “injury to all, most especially, all workers, their dependants, vulnerable and hapless Nigerians.”
According to the council, “the economic and mental hardships are becoming unbearable and frustrating,” stressing that the time had come to mobilise workers for the warning strike.
“The time to act and mobilize workers for the three days warning strike is now!!!” the council declared.
The JNPSNC directed its affiliates and state structures to disseminate the information and mobilise workers for the action.
