Human rights lawyer and spokesperson for the Accord Party Governorship Campaign Council in Osun State, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for his recent cross-party outreach, describing the move as a powerful example of leadership rooted in humility, character, and excellence.

Olajengbesi revealed that Adeleke personally placed calls to former governors and key political leaders across party lines, appealing for unity and collaboration in the interest of Osun State’s progress. He noted that only former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola was unable to take the call, stressing that this should be understood within the context of post-election emotions that may take time to heal.

“Governor Adeleke is an inspirational leader who combines character, humility, and excellence. Our new generation of leaders have a lot to learn from him,” Olajengbesi said.

Politics Beyond Division
The lawyer emphasized that Adeleke’s gesture carries a broader lesson for Nigeria’s democracy: politics must never be treated as a do-or-die affair.

“The leaders we fight ourselves over today will eventually sit together, speak to one another, and reconcile their differences. Support your political choices passionately, but never make another person your permanent enemy because of politics,” he added.

A Model for Reconciliation
Observers say Adeleke’s outreach could set a precedent for healing political divisions in Osun, fostering unity across party lines and reinforcing the idea that governance should transcend rivalry. Olajengbesi’s remarks highlight the importance of reconciliation and collective responsibility in building a stronger, more inclusive democracy.
