Former presidential spokesperson and prominent political commentator, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has taken a swipe at political critics and rival camps following a series of defections and political realignments across Nigeria’s opposition landscape, declaring that recent developments have vindicated his long-held suspicions.
In a strongly worded reaction laced with sarcasm and confidence, Showunmi said the movement of politicians across platforms, from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reinforced his belief that political calculations had been unfolding behind the scenes for some time.
“Sometimes, you don’t need to argue. Just watch the movement, connect the dots, and let time do the talking,” he stated.
The outspoken politician suggested that the emerging alignments have exposed what many had previously dismissed as speculation, insisting that events are now unfolding exactly as he anticipated.
In a message that appeared directed at political actors seeking new alliances, Showunmi invoked a popular Yoruba proverb: “Ẹni tí kò mọ̀ ọ̀nà, kó tẹ̀lé ẹni tó mọ̀ ọ̀nà,” meaning, “The one who does not know the way should follow the one who does.”
Political observers interpreted the remark as a subtle assertion of his strategic foresight and understanding of Nigeria’s rapidly evolving political terrain.
Showunmi, known for his blunt interventions on national issues and political affairs, also hinted that some politicians may soon find themselves learning hard lessons in political maneuvering. Referring to the latest shifts in allegiance, he remarked that some of the actors involved have now moved onto “the platform of an Oga who will teach them politics,” a statement already generating debate among political stakeholders.
With evident satisfaction, he celebrated what he described as the confirmation of his earlier suspicions.
“Gbam! The plot thickens. My dance is well deserved!” Showunmi declared.
The remarks have since sparked fresh conversations across political circles and social media, with supporters praising his political foresight while critics view the comments as a triumphalist response to ongoing opposition realignments.
As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve ahead of future electoral contests, Showunmi’s latest intervention underscores the growing significance of strategic alliances, defections, and ideological repositioning in shaping the nation’s political future.
“My dance is well deserved,” he reiterated, signaling that for him, recent events are less of a surprise and more of a confirmation that patience, observation, and political calculation often reveal the bigger picture with time.
