Apostle Sam Adegoke, founder of Elijah Generation Church in Akure, Ondo State, has temporarily stepped back from public ministry after issuing a public apology regarding past extramarital sexual relationships prior to his recent marriage.
In an official statement released Monday, the newlywed cleric expressed deep regret for his conduct, taking full responsibility for failing to uphold the ethical and spiritual standards required of Christian leadership.
”Before I was married, I was involved in sexual relationships with women that I deeply regret,” Adegoke stated. “Although these events occurred before my marriage, I acknowledge that my actions were wrong and fell short of the standards of holiness, integrity, and self-control I am called to uphold as a Christian and minister of the Gospel.”
Adegoke tendered unreserved apologies to the women affected, his wife, his family, and members of his congregation. He emphasized that he is not offering excuses for his past actions and confirmed that he is currently undergoing spiritual, pastoral, and professional counseling.
Detailing his decision to step down from active ministry and social media, Adegoke noted that true repentance requires accountability and observable personal transformation. He urged the public and church community to pray for his ongoing journey toward rehabilitation rather than excuse his missteps.
Following the announcement, both Adegoke and his wife restricted public comments on their official social media accounts.
