The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Mallam Mohammadu Adamu, has been killed by unidentified gunmen.
Confirming the incident, the State Chairman of MACBAN, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, disclosed that the attackers stormed Adamu’s residence at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, shortly after he had broken his fast with family members and friends. The assailants reportedly forced their way into the house and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene.
According to Babayo, residents and neighbours immediately mobilized efforts to save his life and rushed him to the General Hospital in Barkin Ladi.
However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Describing the killing as tragic and unfortunate, Babayo called on security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted. He stressed that bringing the perpetrators to justice would serve as a deterrent against similar acts of violence.
Speaking separately, a community youth leader, Alhaji Danjuma Ibrahim, said the deceased would be laid to rest on Thursday in the Got area of Barkin Ladi.
Ibrahim revealed that the attack was reportedly the third attempt on Adamu’s life in recent times. He urged security operatives to thoroughly investigate the incident and identify those behind the assassination.
“The attackers shot him multiple times, leaving bullet wounds across his body before escaping from the area,” Ibrahim said. “Security personnel, including police officers and soldiers, responded swiftly and were present at the hospital when he was taken there.”
He further described the late Adamu as a peace-loving leader whose contributions to peacebuilding and community cohesion in Barkin Ladi would be greatly missed.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alabo Alfred, could not be reached for comment.
