Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and former Governor of Kano State, has announced Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate for Kano State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso also revealed that Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna will contest for the Kano Central Senatorial District under the party’s banner.
The announcement, shared via Kwankwaso’s official X handle on Friday, followed consultations within the party.
He emphasized that the selections were guided by principles of equity, fairness, loyalty, and competence.“I am delighted to announce that His Excellency, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has been chosen as our Kano NDC gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming elections.
Similarly, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna will contest for the Kano Central Senatorial Seat. This decision was made in the spirit of equity, fairness, loyalty, and competence — values central to our party and the Kwankwasiyya movement,” Kwankwaso stated.
He expressed optimism about the party’s affirmation exercise, praying for a peaceful process and eventual victory in the elections.Gwarzo, a close ally of Kwankwaso, previously served as Deputy Governor of Kano State under Governor Abba Yusuf.
He has also held roles as Commissioner for State Affairs during Kwankwaso’s administration and Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government Area.
He resigned as deputy governor after Yusuf defected to the APC, later joining the African Democratic Congress with Kwankwaso before moving to the NDC.Gawuna, meanwhile, was Deputy Governor under Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and contested the 2023 Kano governorship election as the APC candidate.
