A two-time gubernatorial aspirant in Edo State, High Chief Jacob Egietseme Idinye, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on the extension of his tenure by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

High Chief Idinye, a distinguished recipient of over 32 professional awards both locally and internationally for his contributions to maritime reporting, customs activities, and public service advocacy, commended the Comptroller-General’s exemplary leadership, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to national service.

He noted that Adeniyi’s tenure has been marked by bold reforms and modernization initiatives that have significantly strengthened the Nigeria Customs Service.

In a statement personally signed on Saturday, June 20, 2026, Idinye highlighted the CG’s achievements in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and anti-smuggling operations, stressing that these efforts have contributed immensely to Nigeria’s economic stability and national security

He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his continued confidence in capable and patriotic public servants, describing the decision as a reaffirmation of the President’s commitment to excellence, continuity, and institutional strength in critical sectors of national development.

Chief Idinye further emphasized that the extension of Adeniyi’s tenure would ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, foster deeper collaboration with other government agencies, and enhance initiatives aimed at women’s economic empowerment and broader social development.

“Under Comptroller-General Adeniyi’s guidance, the Nigeria Customs Service has demonstrated resilience and innovation, streamlining operations and enforcing critical directives for the benefit of the nation. His proactive measures against smuggling and illicit trade have reinforced border security and safeguarded Nigeria’s economic interests,” Idinye stated.

As a stakeholder in maritime reporting, Idinye expressed confidence that other key players in the sector would continue to draw inspiration from Adeniyi’s leadership, which he described as transcending borders and setting global standards in customs administration.

He added that Adeniyi’s commitment to excellence and integrity would further protect Nigeria’s socio-economic interests against those who undermine national progress.

High Chief Idinye further extolled Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi as a man of dignity, integrity, and high moral rectitude, with an unblemished record of public service.

He emphasized that Adeniyi’s reputation for transparency and accountability was recently reaffirmed by the Senate Public Accounts Committee (SPAC), which exonerated both the Comptroller-General and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) from an alleged ₦62.2 billion under-remittance query.

Following a comprehensive investigative hearing in Abuja, lawmakers dismissed the audit infraction, thereby clearing the CG of any wrongdoing. Idinye noted that this outcome was not surprising, given Adeniyi’s consistent demonstration of prudence and ethical conduct in the management of public resources.

“The Senate’s decision is a testament to Comptroller-General Adeniyi’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility—qualities that are rare in our body politic. His leadership continues to set a benchmark for integrity in public administration,” Idinye remarked.

He stressed that Adeniyi’s exoneration further strengthens public confidence in the Nigeria Customs Service and underscores the importance of entrusting national institutions to leaders of proven character and competence.

The Etsako High Chief also commended the Nigeria Customs Service leadership under Adeniyi for its collaboration with Songhai Health Trust, which has enabled officers to access the National Health Insurance Scheme.

He described the initiative as a strategic step toward improving officers’ welfare, boosting performance, and strengthening their commitment to national service.

“This program provides affordable and stress-free healthcare services to officers. By keying into it, they will have no cause for regret. The leadership of the NCS under Adeniyi is leaving no stone unturned in enhancing the welfare of its officers by all standards,” Idinye disclosed.

High Chief Idinye also commended the Comptroller-General who currently serves as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO), for his visionary leadership and innovative initiatives within the Nigeria Customs Service.

He particularly hailed the introduction of the Customs Care Programme, a welfare-driven project designed to support educational development by providing schools and students with free textbooks to aid their academic pursuits.

Idinye described the initiative as a clear demonstration of Adeniyi’s commitment not only to trade facilitation and border security but also to social responsibility and human capital development.

He emphasized that by investing in education, the Customs Care Programme reflects a broader understanding of national service—one that extends beyond revenue generation and enforcement to nurturing the future of Nigeria’s youth.

“This initiative underscores Comptroller-General Adeniyi’s compassion and foresight. By equipping schools and students with essential learning materials, he is laying a foundation for academic excellence and empowering the next generation to contribute meaningfully to national growth. It is a rare blend of professionalism and humanitarianism that sets him apart as a leader of global repute,” Idinye stated.

He further noted that Adeniyi’s dual role as CG of Customs and Chairman of the WCO amplifies Nigeria’s influence on the international stage, while his domestic reforms continue to inspire confidence among stakeholders in education, trade, and governance.
