High Chief Jacob Egietseme Idinye has applauded the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), for the timely rollout of the 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments recently approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
Idinye emphasized that the initiative underscores the Federal Government’s resolve to strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal and trade policy framework. According to him, the reforms are strategically designed to enhance economic competitiveness, boost revenue generation, and harmonize Nigeria’s tariff regime with regional and international obligations.
“This development is a pivotal step toward consolidating national revenue. The approved measures introduce comprehensive amendments to the Customs and Excise Tariff framework, aimed at supporting domestic industries, facilitating legitimate trade, and improving fiscal administration across the country,” Idinye stated.
He highlighted key amendments, which include Revised Import Adjustment Tax List for implementing the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (2022–2027), Updated National List under the ECOWAS CET framework, Revised Import Prohibition List (Trade), Expanded Excise Duty List covering goods subject to excise taxation, Green Tax Surcharge on motor vehicles with engine capacities of 2000cc and above and Revised Export Prohibition List.
Idinye urged all relevant stakeholders, importers, exporters, manufacturers, and licensed customs agents, to cooperate fully, familiarize themselves with the amended tariff schedules, and ensure strict compliance with fiscal and regulatory requirements. He noted that the Nigeria Customs Service has published the complete 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments on its official website (customs.gov.ng) to guide stakeholders and promote transparency.
Commending the CGC’s leadership, Idinye remarked:
“The Comptroller-General’s numerous achievements reflect patriotism and a firm commitment to eliminating economic sabotage. His appointment by President Bola Tinubu was indeed a round peg in a round hole. The CG, Wale Adeniyi has signed strategic agreements, including partnerships with China on import and export, alongside other interventions that foster peace, security, and prosperity for our nation.”
Idinye maintained that Adeniyi has demonstrated an unwavering zeal for excellence that will play a pivotal role in protecting Nigeria’s economic interests. He noted that Adeniyi’s leadership is marked by integrity, dedication, and a resolute determination to confront and dismantle the activities of individuals and groups who undermine the nation’s socio-economic progress.
