Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, alongside his delegation, convened a high-level roundtable discussion with the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UN Global Compact Networks, and partners from across Africa and the Caribbean.
The dialogue centered on urgent measures to protect coastlines and infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on mobilizing financing before the next major climate event.
Governor Sanwo-Olu underscored the immediacy of the challenge, noting that Lagos, as a coastal city, is already experiencing the harsh realities of climate change. Flooding continues to disrupt communities, while mounting pressure strains roads, homes, and businesses.The Governor stressed that government action alone is insufficient.
By engaging directly with the private sector, Lagos is advancing practical solutions to strengthen resilience and secure its economic future. “We need strong partnerships and innovative approaches to build a more prepared Lagos,” he affirmed, highlighting the importance of collaboration across borders.
The Manhattan roundtable marks a pivotal step in positioning Lagos as a leader in climate resilience, signaling a commitment to proactive measures that safeguard both people and infrastructure against the growing threats of climate change.
