Fidelity Bank Plc has reinforced its commitment to tackling hunger and supporting vulnerable communities through the distribution of essential food supplies to more than 2,500 beneficiaries across eight communities in Uromi and Irrua, Edo State. The initiative, carried out under the Fidelity Food Bank programme, took place at the Uromi Town Hall in Esan Central Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank, said the intervention reflects the bank’s dedication to uplifting lives and strengthening communities through targeted Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

“Today’s distribution goes beyond food items; it is about supporting families, building resilience, and contributing to wellbeing. This initiative also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2), which seeks to end hunger and achieve food security,” Nwagboh stated.

He disclosed that Fidelity Bank distributes 10,000 food packs monthly through its Food Bank programme, working with 19 partners nationwide to reach communities most affected by food insecurity.

The Edo State Government commended the initiative, with Governor Monday Okpebholo, represented by Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue, praising Fidelity Bank for extending humanitarian support to residents of Uromi.

“At a time when families face increasing demands, this act of kindness demonstrates the vital role corporate organisations play in community wellbeing. On behalf of the Governor and the people of Edo, we thank Fidelity Bank for this remarkable gesture,” Uwangue said.

Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude, noting that the food packs would provide meaningful relief and ease the burden of feeding their families.

Launched in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank has become one of the bank’s flagship CSR programmes, distributing over 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Ranked among Nigeria’s leading banks, Fidelity Bank Plc serves more than 9.1 million customers through its digital platforms, 255 business offices nationwide, and its UK subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited. The bank has received multiple awards, including the 2024 Excellence in Digital Transformation & MSME Banking Award (BusinessDay BAFI Awards), Most Innovative Mobile Banking Application (Global Business Outlook), and Best Bank for SMEs in Nigeria (Euromoney Awards for Excellence).
