Ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a stern warning to individuals planning to disrupt the electoral process, stressing that offenders will face severe consequences in line with the law.
In a statement released on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, cautioned that any act capable of undermining the integrity of the polls will be met with decisive action.
“The Nigeria Police Force warns that electoral offences and any act capable of compromising the credibility of the electoral process will be dealt with in accordance with the Electoral Act and other extant laws. Citizens are therefore urged to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the election period,” the statement read.
Placid confirmed that the police have finalized comprehensive security deployments across Ekiti State, covering all 2,545 polling units, critical infrastructure, border communities, major entry and exit routes, and other strategic locations.
He emphasized that the deployment is designed to guarantee the safety of voters, election officials, observers, and materials throughout the exercise.
Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, Shogule Abayomi, further disclosed that a multi-layered security architecture has been adopted to ensure a peaceful, credible, and hitch-free election.
“Security personnel and operational assets have been strategically deployed to safeguard the process and reassure the public of our readiness,” he stated.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu also assured Nigerians that all personnel assigned to election duty have been adequately briefed on their responsibilities and rules of engagement.
He pledged that officers will discharge their duties professionally, impartially, and strictly in accordance with the law.To enhance public confidence, the police announced a dedicated election emergency line — 080062335577 — urging citizens to promptly report any security concerns for swift intervention.
Authorities also cautioned against spreading unverified information capable of inciting panic or disrupting public order.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring that the Ekiti governorship election is conducted in a free, fair, credible, and peaceful manner.
