The Delta State Government has categorically debunked reports circulating on social media alleging the death of former Governor Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing the claims as baseless, false, and misleading.
The clarification was issued on Wednesday by Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Ossai explained that upon seeing the viral reports, he immediately reached out to the family of the former governor to verify the information.
In a post on his official X handle titled “Former Governor Uduaghan Is Alive – Death Rumour False”, Ossai revealed that he spoke directly with Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode Uduaghan, who confirmed that her father is alive and in good health.
“I have just seen reports circulating online claiming that the former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, is dead. Some people have been reaching out to me asking if the news is real. I immediately contacted his family, spoke directly with his daughter, Orode, and she confirmed that the news is false. Dr. Uduaghan is alive,” Ossai stated.
Expressing disappointment over the spread of unverified information, Ossai condemned the deliberate peddling of falsehoods, stressing that such rumours cause unnecessary emotional distress to family members, friends, and millions of Deltans who hold the former governor in high regard.
He described the act of spreading fake news about a person’s death as “cruel, irresponsible, and damaging,” warning that it undermines public trust and fuels unnecessary panic.
Ossai urged members of the public to exercise caution and responsibility when sharing information online, emphasizing the importance of verifying news from credible sources before dissemination.
“I urge the public to disregard the rumour and avoid sharing unverified information. Let us show respect for life and for our leaders. Dr. Uduaghan is fine and not dead,” he added.
