A 55-year-old motorist has escaped unhurt after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway line in Lagos.
The collision involved a train travelling towards Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT, which was extensively damaged.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said its operatives and security personnel rescued the driver and removed the wrecked vehicle from the railway track, allowing the train to resume its journey.
However, traffic congestion persisted around the PWD axis following the incident.
The wrecked car was subsequently handed over to security personnel for investigation into the cause of the collision, LASTMA said.
The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the operatives and security personnel for their prompt response.
He said their coordinated intervention demonstrated the importance of collaboration in managing emergencies involving railway operations and adjoining roads.
Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings and designated train corridors.
He warned against attempting to cross railway tracks when a train was approaching or already in motion, stressing that “reckless disregard for railway safety protocols could precipitate devastating and irreversible consequences”.
LASTMA also appealed to road users to comply with established traffic and railway safety regulations.
The agency stressed that “the preservation of human life must remain paramount in all road-use decisions”, adding that responsible driving and strict observance of safety instructions could prevent avoidable collisions.
