Nigeria today marks 65 years of independence, and the African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA), Abuja Branch, has joined millions of compatriots at home and abroad in celebrating this historic milestone.

In a statement signed by Dr. Oluwatoyin Aladegami, LLM, PhD, Coordinator of AWLA Abuja, the association described Independence Day as “a day of pride, reflection, and renewed hope.”

The message paid tribute to the courage and sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers and mothers, while saluting the resilience, hard work, and indomitable spirit of the Nigerian people across all regions of the country.

“As women lawyers, we remain committed to advancing justice, the rule of law, equity, and good governance — values essential for building a nation where every Nigerian can thrive,” the statement read.

AWLA called on citizens to recommit themselves to building a Nigeria of peace, unity, opportunity, and sustainable prosperity, emphasizing that the creative and entertainment industries, alongside the legal profession, hold immense promise for the nation’s future.

The message concluded with a resounding declaration:
“Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria! Long live Nigeria!”
