The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed former Osun State Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to its 276-member National Campaign Council for the upcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
The council, unveiled on Sunday by the APC National Working Committee, will be chaired by Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma. Its inauguration is slated for Tuesday, July 28, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre, Abuja. The announcement was contained in a notice signed by APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
Omisore’s inclusion is expected to quell recent speculation about his loyalty to the APC, following the defection of some of his close associates to the Accord Party in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid. His absence at the party’s campaign flag-off in Ile-Ife had further fueled speculation of disengagement.
According to the notice, Uzodimma will serve as chairman, while Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas will act as co-chairmen. The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, was named deputy chairman, with Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin as secretary.
The council comprises governors, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, lawmakers, party leaders, and stakeholders nationwide. Basiru also confirmed the establishment of specialised sub-committees covering election planning, finance, grassroots mobilisation, logistics, monitoring, media, security, youth and women mobilisation, and special interest groups.
The APC has fielded former Commissioner for Finance, Bola Oyebamiji (popularly known as AMBO), as its consensus candidate. He will contest against incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke in what is widely regarded as a crucial political test ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting to Omisore’s appointment, Chairman of the Omisore Campaign Organisation, Ajibola Famurewa, dismissed claims of Omisore’s disengagement, stressing his commitment to the party. Famurewa explained that Omisore’s absence at the flag-off was due to late notification, noting that several leaders received invitations barely 24 hours before the event.
