In a moving testament to the bonds of humanity that transcend political rivalry, Hon. Rotimi Makinde, a respected chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former member of the House of Representatives for Ife Federal Constituency in the 7th Assembly, has expressed profound grief over the passing of Hon. Albert Abiodun Adeogun.

Adeogun, himself a former federal lawmaker and one-time political opponent of Makinde in Osun State, recently passed away, leaving behind a legacy of service, courage, and dedication to his constituency.

Despite their history of electoral contest, Makinde described Adeogun’s death as a painful loss not only to the people of Ife but also to Nigeria’s democratic community.

In his condolence message, Makinde commiserated with the bereaved family, urging them to find comfort in the impactful life Adeogun lived. He emphasized that politics should never overshadow shared humanity, noting that Adeogun’s contributions to governance and representation remain worthy of remembrance.

Makinde’s statement reads partly:

“I received with deep pain the sad news of the passing of Hon. Albert Abiodun Adeogun. He was a large-hearted politician and a courageous fighter for whatever cause he believed in. On behalf of my family, I convey our heartfelt condolences to his family members and all who are grieving this loss. May God grant them the fortitude to bear it.”

He further described Adeogun as:

“A loving personality, a generous giver, and someone who lived for others. To many, he was a beacon of hope for a better tomorrow. His painful exit is far more than the end of an individual—it is the departure of a phenomenon.”

Makinde praised Adeogun’s steadfastness, noting that even his critics would attest to his tenacity of purpose and unwavering commitment to his principles. He concluded by affirming that posterity will honor Adeogun’s legacies of service, forthrightness, and his role as a worthy ambassador of Osun State.

This tribute underscores the importance of unity and respect among political actors, even in the face of ideological differences. Makinde’s words serve as a reminder that beyond the arena of competition, leaders share a common responsibility to uphold values of compassion, solidarity, and service to humanity.
