Apapa General Hospital has taken medical outreach to 1,000 pupils in the local government area to mark its 60th anniversary.

Physiotherapist Abolarin Ayodele admonished the pupils to limit the number of books carried in their back packs to prevent back and muscular pain, while therapist Awwal Gbadamosi-Sanni took them through care for the teeth by brushing twice daily, changing their tooth brush every three months and reducing the intake of sugar.

Medical Director/CEO of Apapa General Hospital, Dr Lateefat Omolara-Agbaje, recalled that the hospital started as a Primary Health Centre on October 17, 1964, and later upgraded to a full-fledged General Hospital.

She said: “This 60th anniversary celebration is to give back to the society through this medical outreach for children.

“The children would be sensitised on how to live healthy and also take care of their health when the need arises.

“The Lagos State government has employed specialists in various fields to cater to the people’s health needs because health is wealth. If people are healthy, they can achieve what they set out to achieve.”

Dr. Agbaje thanked the government, hospital management and staff for their continued cooperation and support toward realisation of the hospital’s goals.

She also promised to do her best to ensure the hospital attains a lofty height in quality healthcare delivery.

Executive Chairman of Apapa Local Government Area Adejumoke Sebanjo congratulated Dr. Agbaje and her team on the hospital’s 60th anniversary.

She said: “Apapa General Hospital in the last 60 years has gone a long way in catering to the people’s secondary health needs. I implore our children to take advantage of the free checks and be attentive to the health tips being given today so they can ensure quick response to their health needs.”

Highpoint of the event was the inspection of new ophthalmology equipment and medical check stands.
