A leading stakeholder from Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, Chief Simon Eze, has commended Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his visionary leadership and relentless pursuit of strategic infrastructure initiatives capable of transforming the Southeast into Nigeria’s foremost industrial and economic powerhouse.
Chief Eze made the commendation following the official launch of the $100 million Southeast Gas Distribution Pipeline Project, a landmark regional infrastructure initiative championed by the Federal Government in partnership with the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), state governments, and private sector investors.
According to him, Governor Mbah’s commitment to economic integration, industrialisation, and regional development has positioned Enugu and the Southeast on the path of unprecedented growth and prosperity.
“The gas pipeline project is more than an energy initiative; it is a catalyst for industrial transformation, job creation, and sustainable economic development. Governor Peter Mbah has consistently demonstrated bold leadership and strategic thinking by advocating projects that will unlock the vast economic potential of the Southeast,” Chief Eze stated.
The 400-kilometre pipeline network, expected to connect gas resources to key industrial and commercial centres across Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi states, is projected to serve about 150 industrial customers with an estimated demand of 254 million standard cubic feet of gas daily.
Chief Eze noted that the project perfectly aligns with Governor Mbah’s vision of making Enugu the premier destination for investment, manufacturing, and innovation in Nigeria.
“Governor Mbah understands that modern economies are built on infrastructure. His passion for creating a common economic market across the Southeast and providing an enabling environment for businesses has earned him recognition as one of the leading drivers of regional economic transformation in Nigeria,” he said.
He further applauded President Bola Tinubu for supporting the establishment of the South-East Development Commission and for backing projects aimed at addressing the region’s infrastructure deficit and accelerating industrial growth.
Chief Eze emphasized that reliable gas infrastructure would significantly reduce the cost of energy for manufacturers, revive moribund industries, stimulate agro-processing, attract new investments, and create thousands of jobs for young people across the Southeast.
He particularly praised Governor Mbah’s intervention during the project planning process, which led to the decision to commence construction simultaneously from multiple locations to ensure that Enugu and other states would not experience delays in accessing gas supply.
“That decision reflects Governor Mbah’s proactive leadership style. He is not waiting for development to happen; he is actively shaping it. His contributions continue to ensure that Enugu remains at the forefront of the Southeast’s industrial renaissance,” Chief Eze added.
The Akpugo stakeholder expressed optimism that the gas pipeline project, alongside ongoing investments in transportation, power, technology, and industrial infrastructure across Enugu State, would accelerate the realization of a globally competitive Southeast economy.
He urged communities across the region to support the project and work closely with government authorities and investors to ensure its successful implementation.
“The Southeast possesses immense entrepreneurial talent and abundant natural resources. With leaders like Governor Peter Mbah championing strategic infrastructure development, the region is steadily moving toward becoming a major industrial and economic hub not only in Nigeria but across Africa,” Chief Eze concluded.
Industry observers believe the gas pipeline project will serve as a cornerstone of the Southeast’s long-term development agenda, unlocking new opportunities for manufacturing, commerce, energy security, and regional economic integration over the coming decades.
Chief Eze, however, maintained that Governor Peter Mbah’s impressive record of transformative governance and strategic development initiatives constitutes a strong foundation for his re-election bid in 2027. He noted that the people of Akpugo remain steadfast in their support for the governor and are fully committed to mobilizing for a resounding and landslide victory at the polls.
