The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Kaduna State Council, has passed a vote of confidence in Governor Uba Sani’s administration, citing improved industrial relations, workers’ welfare, job security and timely payment of salaries. NigeriaNews Subscription
The labour union, however, appealed to the governor to approve consequential adjustments for core civil servants and reinstate 83 workers of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) and other affected agencies.
The position was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency State Executive Council meeting of the TUC held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Congress Secretariat in Millennium City, Kaduna. The communiqué was signed by the council’s Chairperson, Comrade Abdullahi A. DanFulani, and Secretary, Comrade Abdullah Y. Mohammed.
The TUC, at its 33rd session, described its relationship with the state government as harmonious and beneficial to workers, commending the administration for promoting job security, ending what it described as unnecessary retrenchment and victimisation, and improving the timeliness of promotion processes for civil servants.
The union particularly praised Sani for approving the reinstatement of 37 workers of the Kaduna State Local Government Service Commission who were allegedly wrongfully disengaged.
It said the governor approved their reinstatement on August 15, 2026, describing the gesture as a demonstration of commitment to justice and workers’ rights.
The labour centre also commended the state government’s free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) luxury bus scheme, saying it had eased transportation difficulties and costs for workers, improved punctuality and enhanced productivity. It urged the governor to extend the scheme to Kafanchan and Zaria to enable workers in the two major towns benefit from the initiative.
The TUC further applauded the resuscitation of the Civil Service Welfare Loan Scheme, which allows civil servants to access between ₦400,000 and ₦1.5 million, repayable over four years at relatively low interest rates. It also cited training opportunities provided through the Office of the Head of Service, including local and international programmes aimed at improving workers’ skills and professionalism.
Other achievements acknowledged by the union included the payment of salaries as and when due, establishment of the Office of the Special Adviser on Labour Matters, a 50 per cent reduction in institutional fees and other infrastructural developments across the state.
However, the TUC renewed its appeal for the reinstatement of 83 workers of KADIRS, KASUPDA and other government agencies who were disengaged in 2019. The union said the affected workers had taken their case to the National Industrial Court in Kaduna, which determined the matter in their favour, adding that 13 of the 83 workers had died since their disengagement.
The labour centre also urged the governor to approve consequential adjustments for core civil servants, while reaffirming its commitment to peaceful and constructive engagement with the state government. It said addressing the outstanding issues would promote justice, fairness and inclusive governance, stressing that it remained committed to sustaining industrial harmony in Kaduna State.
