High Chief Jacob Egietseme Idinye has warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the country not to get too excited or comfortable at the government house, saying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is ready to oust Bola Tinubu out of power in the 2027 presidential election.
Idinye, a two time governorship aspirant in Edo State also chided a former spokesperson to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Otunba Segun Showunmi for sharing his analysis on the possibility of Bola Tinubu of winning the 2027 presidential poll during an interview with an online media platform.
According to Sowunmi, Tinubu’s political strength was closely tied to the backing of APC governors, particularly those in their first terms who would be seeking re-election.
Reacting to the assertions of Showunmi in a chat with some political correspondents in Lagos on Friday, December 13, 2024, Idinye said:
“APC should not get too excited or comfortable at the government house, by now they should have been smelling the coffee and as well realise that the Peoples Democratic Party is ready to oust Bola Tinubu out of power in the 2027 presidential election.
“I am however surprised that a former spokesperson to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Otunba Segun Showunmi would be making analysis on the possibility of Bola Tinubu of winning the 2027 presidential poll during an interview with an online media platform. Such insinuation is needless and unnecessary at a time like this. Segun Showunmi should be properly guided and be smarter.
“Today, you can see many skit makers making a caricature of this administration and even the economy speaks for itself, look at the exchange rate, even the issue of security, the challenge is humongous and these have created a fertile ground for PDP to cash in and win in 2027.
“If the economic issue does not get addressed in a timeous manner between now and 2027, if the security and infrastructural deficit does not get fixed, I mean incumbents have been losing elections, same will equally repeat itself in 2027. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has not said he would contest in 2027 but if he did, he will not just win but will record a landslide victory.
“This country cannot continue like this. What I know is that something will have to give.
“I guarantee you and I am confident (that) the same way we were able to get military out of power, we are going to correct the current mess and change the narrative positively.
“We are going to get to a situation where we have functional political parties forming alliance with PDP, and APC and President Asiwaju (Tinubu) will be defeated in 2027, and we will produce leaders that will be servants to citizens, not leaders that are emperors. Nigerians deserve a breather, ” Idinye stated.
