The Senate Committee on Army has commiserated with the Federal Government and the Nigerian Armed Forces over the death of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the late Chief of Army Staff.
Lagbaja until the confirmation of his demise at the age of 56 years on Wednesday by the Presidency was the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Gen Lagbaja died on Tuesday night, after an illness, according to a statement by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga.
Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Distinguished Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yara’dua on behalf of his committee in a statement made available to VeracityDesk (veracitydesk.com) through his aide described the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), as a rare gem and a fine officer, who gave his all for the territorial security and unity of the country.
The committee further eulogised Lagbaja’s sense of coordination and team spirit, saying the late Army Chief redefined the tenets of military engagement in the manner and speed he tackled the activities of terrorists and bandits with huge success.
