Nigeria has lost one of its most respected elder statesmen and foremost Yoruba leaders, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, who passed away at the age of 100.

The death of the revered nationalist and advocate of democratic governance was confirmed on Tuesday by Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in an official statement.

Announcing the passing of the elder statesman, Governor Aiyedatiwa described Pa Fasoranti as a towering figure whose life embodied wisdom, integrity, patriotism, and selfless service to society.

“With a heavy heart, but in total submission to the will of Almighty God, I announce the passing of our revered elder statesman, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who departed this world at the glorious age of 100,” the governor stated.

He paid tribute to the late Afenifere leader, noting that his century-long journey was marked by an unwavering commitment to the advancement of Ondo State, the Yoruba nation, and Nigeria as a whole.

According to Aiyedatiwa, Pa Fasoranti’s contributions to nation-building, his steadfast advocacy for justice, equity, and good governance, as well as his role as a mentor and moral compass to generations of leaders, earned him a place among the country’s most influential public figures.

Describing him as a patriarch and beacon of principled leadership, the governor said the late nonagenarian’s counsel, fatherly guidance, and enduring commitment to democratic ideals would be greatly missed.

“Pa Fasoranti lived a fulfilled and impactful life, leaving behind an enduring legacy of honour, courage, and service. His footprints in the sands of time will remain indelible, serving as an inspiration to present and future generations,” the governor added.

On behalf of the government and people of Ondo State, Aiyedatiwa extended condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom, the Yoruba nation, and Nigerians at large over the monumental loss.

The passing of Pa Fasoranti marks the end of a significant chapter in Nigeria’s political and socio-cultural history. As leader of Afenifere, he remained a respected voice on national issues, consistently championing democracy, restructuring, justice, and the protection of Yoruba interests within a united Nigeria.

He is remembered not only as a political leader but also as a statesman whose life of service, courage, and conviction helped shape public discourse and democratic development in Nigeria for decades.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
