Police probe attack on livestock traders in Abia
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, has ordered a probe into the attack on the Lokpanta Cattle Market in Umunneochi Local Government Area and Eziama Nunya in Isuikwato Local Government Area in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement made available to our correspondent by the command Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, on Saturday.
According to the statement, the commissioner made an on-the-spot assessment of the community, following the recent attack on seven youths by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
The statement read, “Today 19/10/2024, the Commissioner of Police Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, and his entourage visited Lokpanta Cattle Market in Umunneochi LGA and Eziama Nunya in Isuikwato LGA Abia State, for an on-the-spot assessment following the recent attack of seven youths, one bodily injured, and 65 missing cattle by yet-to-be-identified assailants in the aforementioned areas.”

The statement added, “During the visit, the CP extended his heartfelt sympathies to members of the community. He reassured them of the command’s unwavering commitment to bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
“He urged them to remain calm, refrain from taking laws into their own hands, and cooperate fully with the police.”
The statement, however, revealed that the command in collaboration with local guards from the Seriki Hausa in the community was able to recover 56 out of the 65 missing cattle.
“To expedite justice, the command in collaboration with local guards from Seriki Hausa, has successfully recovered 56 of the missing cattle. Intensive operations are in progress to track down the remaining cattle and apprehend the assailants,” it added.
