Former member of the House of Representatives and prominent Ogun State politician, Hon. Jimoh Olusola Ojugbele, has announced the death of his elder brother, Chief (Dr.) Timothy Akanni Ojugbele, the revered Agba Akin of Igbesa Land, who passed away at the age of 91.
In an emotional statement released on Sunday, the former federal lawmaker expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late nonagenarian as a pillar of wisdom, prayer and guidance whose presence would be greatly missed by the family and the community.
Hon. Ojugbele said the family received the news of the passing with sadness but remains fully resigned to the will of Almighty God.
“It is with a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of Almighty God that I announce the passing of my elder brother, Chief (Dr.) Timothy Akanni Ojugbele, the Agba Akin of Igbesa Land, who died today at the age of 91,” he stated.
The former lawmaker noted that although death remains an inevitable part of life, the departure of the elder statesman came at a time when his experience, wise counsel and prayers were still valuable to family members, friends and the wider society.
According to him, the family finds comfort in the fact that Chief Ojugbele
lived an impactful life marked by service, dignity and positive contributions to humanity.
“Even though death is inevitable, Chief (Dr.) Timothy Akanni Ojugbele passed at a time when his wise counsel, prayers and elderly guidance are needed most. We only take solace in the fact that he lived a glorious and impactful life,” Hon. Ojugbele added.
The late Chief Ojugbele was widely respected in Igbesa and beyond for his leadership role as Agba Akin of Igbesa Land, a traditional title that placed him among the revered elders and custodians of the community’s values and heritage.
Family sources disclosed that his remains have been deposited in a morgue pending the announcement of funeral arrangements.
The death of the respected community leader is expected to draw tributes from traditional rulers, political associates, religious leaders and members of the Igbesa community who benefited from his counsel and lifelong commitment to communal development.
As condolences continue to pour in, many have described the late Chief Timothy Akanni Ojugbele as a man whose legacy of wisdom, humility and service will remain etched in the history of Igbesa Land.
Burial arrangements, according to the family, will be announced at a later date.
