Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of Professor Badejo Ayodeji Olawumi (née Faji) as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).
Professor Badejo, a distinguished scholar in Guidance and Counselling, officially takes over from Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure has come to an end.
Born on August 4, 1962, Professor Badejo holds a Ph.D. and M.Ed. in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Her academic career has been marked by decades of teaching, mentorship, and research, making her one of Nigeria’s leading voices in educational psychology and student development.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, on September 9, 2026.
With her appointment, LASU enters a new chapter under the leadership of a seasoned academic whose expertise in counselling and student affairs is expected to strengthen the university’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and holistic education.
