Nigeria’s largest carrier, Air Peace, has issued an apology to passengers after flight operations in Lagos and Abuja were disrupted by an ongoing industrial action led by organised labour unions.
According to the airline, members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) barricaded access points to its departure terminals at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (Alpha and Zulu Terminals) and Terminal 2 in Lagos. The blockade also extended to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, preventing scheduled departures from both cities.
In a statement, Air Peace management explained:
“The ongoing industrial action has resulted in the barricading of entrances to our departure terminals in Lagos and Abuja. This has restricted access and prevented the departure of scheduled flights, significantly affecting passengers across our network.”
The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, stressing that the disruption was beyond its control. It assured affected passengers that updates were being provided as the situation develops.
“Air Peace sincerely apologises to all affected and stranded passengers for the disruption and inconvenience. Passengers scheduled to travel later today are being contacted and provided with relevant updates,” the statement added.
