The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports suggesting that he is lobbying to become Director-General (DG) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).
Reacting through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the claims as false and unfounded. He emphasized that his commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection remains firm, but clarified that he does not need a formal role in the campaign council to deliver electoral success in Rivers State and the FCT.
“I do not need to be the DG or even member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota by ensuring that he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT,” Wike stated.
Focus on Governance and Renewed Hope Agenda
Wike, who is currently outside the country on a short break, noted that his immediate priority upon returning will be to continue delivering on the mandate of the FCT administration in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He highlighted his recent activities, including over 30 days of project commissioning, flag-offs, and inspections of ongoing works scheduled for completion later this year.
“When I return, our focus will be the continuous delivery of our mandate… and to further enhance his electoral fortune in Rivers State and the FCT,” he added.
Reports had circulated in some media outlets listing Wike among party chieftains and government officials allegedly lobbying for the DG position of the APC PCC. However, his office insisted that at no time did the Minister discuss leadership or membership of the campaign council with anyone.
