Veteran filmmaker and industry advocate, Yemi Amodu, has officially announced his decision to serve as Secretary of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), following his earlier aspiration for the presidency.
In a heartfelt declaration titled “The Dream Lives On… Why I Accept the Call to Serve”, obtained by Veracity Desk (veracitydesk.com), Amodu emphasized that his vision for a stronger, more inclusive TAMPAN remains intact, even as he shifts focus from the presidential seat to the Secretariat.
“The presidency was one path. The Secretariat is another. But the destination is the same… A better TAMPAN,” he stated.
Amodu explained that his choice was driven by a desire to ensure representation for the “below-the-line” professionals — makeup artists, grips, costume designers, actors, and crew members — whose contributions often go unrecognized. He pledged to be their voice in decision-making rooms and to fight for welfare, equity, and dignity across the association.
“Not for title. Not for position, but for you… I will do all it takes to ensure your interests are secured,” he affirmed.
While acknowledging the unity and peace that TAMPAN’s leadership must uphold, Amodu reassured members that the dream of reform and empowerment has not died, but rather taken a new form. His commitment, he said, is to continue building hope and working toward a better tomorrow for every member in every state.
The announcement has sparked conversations within the creative community, with many seeing his move as a strategic step to keep the vision alive while strengthening the association’s foundation.
